Well, it didn't drag that much if you're in the right mindset, but I was so upset when that one guy died! (Omitting the name for future readers). He was my favorite character. It was an interesting plot, though, with some fantastical world set right in the middle of the rigorous, society-ruled place.

Yeah, but you can find a story with "some fantastical world set right in the middle of society" in a number of books. Tithe is one, with the fey living amongst us. Same with any number of vampire novels. There are also many where the main character (most often female) can travel into another mystical world. What I'm trying to say is, the books weren't all that unique, and it had to have been written MUCH better to make it onto my favorite book list.

I've read the Gemma Doyle series and I beg to differ. It drags a LOT and there are huge plot holes. And the third book was a major let down. I was so angry at the end...

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
dragging... i thought of it as setting up the themes
yes i hated the ending "the one who was sacrificed into tree form..." was my favorite person (not disclosing the name either)
and boorish pippa, i always knew she was creepy inside

Yeah. Pippa was totally deranged. I did like those girls she befriended in the other Realm.

I always knew what would happen to Pippa... Even when she was alive she scared me. But the plot did drag. I was falling asleep while reading and that NEVER happens to me.
